Eric meets Mr. Bradbury

Comic Con 2009
Comic Con 2009

Comic Con 2009.

Rick Spears and I had just finished checking out Artists alley and I was on my way to a panel on Buck Rogers when Rick calls me and says something like "Ray Bradbury is behind you."

So I double back and there he is! The small crowds around him aren’t exactly a line. Who goes next for an autograph or a photo isn't clear and there is allot of jostling. I wait long enough to get very nervous. Finally it's my turn and I hunker down next to his weal chair. I find Mr. Bradbury's in a great mood. It might have had something to do with the young lady who had her photo taken with him before me that he was reluctant to let go of.

I give Mr. Bradbury a copy of MARK OF THE DAMNED. He takes a second and looks at the case then gives the thing a great big kiss! After that we shake hands and he tells me how grateful he is for the gift and that he will watch it!

I was totally stunned for the rest of the day. Can't wait till next year.

A cinematic experience with Mr. Lobo

On the set of Taste The Blood of Frankenstein In July Mr. Lobo came back east to help us finish Taste The Blood of Frankenstein with a Rod Serling style intro but one thing led to another and we ended up with two new scenes. This movie is a monster.

WELCOME TO THE AMPLIFIED WORLD

diana-santoblog

Greetings, my friend. The following portion of this blog is a collection of weird stories about the unknown, the mysterious and the unexplainable. Stories beyond truth. Stories about the Amplified World. They may shock you. They may disturb you. We believe that is why you are here.

Truth and the Inocent

Heroes

After WWI the absence of protective forces signified real trouble for our uneasy planet. As luck would have it, a multitude of singular individuals spontaneously emerged, taking it upon themselves to protect the cities and towns.
This mass Hero Phenomenon is one of the events that marks the beginning of our modern age.
In a short time, almost all places had their own Hero. However, the Heroes of certain places (such as Innsmouth, Massachusetts, for example) would be considered Monsters elsewhere. Not Villains, Monsters.
The necessity for Heroes is not as great today, with policemen and armies to enforce laws. But some jobs are not healthy for normal people, and a city or town’s Hero is a source of pride to its inhabitants.

The Hero's code:

"SEEK OUT THE TRUTH, AND PROTECT THE INNOCENT!"

Usually the Hero is picked by a governing body, or, as in the case of the KING SILVERS the mantle has been handed down from one generation to the next.

The KING SILVERS are an example of Masked Heroes. Legend has it that the KING SILVER Mask was the magical source of power for KING SILVER 1. Whether this is still true for the present KING SILVER, and what kind of power is produced, be it psychological or physical, is still a mystery.

Traditionally men and women who wear masks are called Masked Men. Whether they are Villains or Heroes is defined by their actions

The mask is a form of disguise worn over the face, which is the focal identifying feature among humans. Disguises obscure the identity of the wearer visually. Many disguises incorporate devices that misdirect any attention focused on the wearer via the Hypno band, affording a degree of anonymity from the eye and the mind.

King Silver 1

Legend says he was a hapless colonial farmer who, by an act of providence, found a magician’s magical silver bag and put his head into it, becoming the first KING SILVER, KING SILVER 1. In his lifetime, he vanquished many villains. His power has been passed on through the generations of KING SILVERS and is a source of hope that strengthens the hearts of many who need strength in their hearts. It is said that his presence has been felt in and around the KING SILVER ancestral burial cave (not to be mistaken with “the Cave.”)

More of KING SILVER 1's story is told in the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED

Commander and Chief

Presidents

A president is selected from the megalomaniacs bred for the political arena. Many Presidents observe the ancient custom of body scarification. One has only to look at money to find beautifully rendered photo-realistic engravings of them.
After a president has died, the skin of the president is tanned and hung in the Hall of Presidents’ Skins, in the Tallest Building of the capital city.
Exceptions to this rule are Alexander Hamilton and Lincoln. Having gone beyond the Natural Life Span, their ceremonial markings have faded away. This phenomenon came into play during the identification of Lincoln as Lincoln when he was found to still be alive.

Lincoln was the sixteenth president. It had once been popularly believed that Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865. But since The Goblin Rider found Lincoln outside The Cave early one morning, it leads one to conclude that John Wilkes Booth must have shot someone else.
Another previously unknown truth about Lincoln was his role as a voodoo priest.

PARASITIC BLOOD-SUCKERS

The Vampire
Though widely considered not real, both villagers and scholars say that the vampire is a spirit-entity capable of inhabiting live humans. Possibly dead humans. When the vampire consciousness enters the host body the host body loses the original consciousness irrevocably. The host body undergoes physical changes to adapt to the vampire consciousness, becoming a carnivorous, haemophagic parasitic blood-sucker feeding on the blood of vertebrates such as mammals (almost exclusively humans).

The criminal ringleader known as Vampire Queen who, if the accounts are to be believed, is a deathless, alien body snatching specter of the Vampire verity.

It is said that because of a mysterious bargain made long ago, the Vampire Queen must procure a concubine every two hundred years for the entity known as El Horror Que Aspira Mujado.
The Vampire queen inhabits a host body. When the time comes for El Horror Que Aspira Mujado to receive his concubine, the Vampire Queen’s consciousness is swapped via an inhuman process with a preordained female homosapien whose body is marked by the vampire emblem upon the skin.
The body that the Vampire Queen has been occupying, a body prepared for passage from our world, through the spheres to another, is then sent to El Horror Que Aspira Mujado with the consciousness of the female homosapien in it, leaving the Vampire Queen’s consciousness on our planet in the new host body, ready for the conditioning it must undergo so that it, in turn, may survive the journey between the spheres.
If the time comes for El Horror Que Aspira Mujado to receive what is his, and the Queen hasn’t a body ready for her consciousness to be put into, she will remain within the prepared host sent to satisfy El Horror Que Aspira Mujado.
In the 1700’swhen the vampires last came to collect there tribute to El Horror Que Aspira Mujado they could not obtain the girl that bore the Mark. So, the Colonial Governor’s favorite courtesan was used as a substitute. Her anatomy not being an exact fit made the consciousness separation/ integration process “tricky”. Which may explain the behavior of the Vampire Queen’s present incarnation. The crimes of the Vampire queen can be seen in the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED.

IS THE BARON DANGEROUS?

A CALL TO REASON

By Professor Hans Ramiraz

The mind, as is well known, does not reside solely within the brain.
There have been instances where persons of great intellect have been
found to posses a substandard amount of brain matter floating in a
viscous fluid within the skull. And many "spectral visitations" or
"hauntings" have been cases where there has been a mind without any body.

Now, when considering the mind one should also consider the will. Particularly the aggressive will. Especially within the bounds of the supernormal, and the very real threat this poses to live humans.

My friends, the embodiment of this threat is the Baron.

The Baron possesses the obtuse ability to "not die" (which in itself is not unusual
in this modern age of HEROES) and a convenient degree of uncanny timing.

For over two hundred years, the actions of the Baron have been condoned by the world's authorities. I do not believe that this is at all a good idea!! I suspect there is another will within the entity we call the Baron, and it has been at work contrary to mankind for some time.

His official appearance as "supernormal” was at the battle of Lodi.
While being trampled under a cavalry charge the Baron grabbed a horse around it's middle and tore it in half. During the struggle the Baron lost his first limb: His left leg from the knee down. In time, the Baron would lose most of his limbs. Relying on prosthetics until he acquired The Paravetty Tree. (1)
Though sensational, all of this is hardly unusual for persons “supernormal”.(2)

His years spent gallivanting as a soldier of fortune solidified his dubious heroic reputation. One should remember the dead village of Bang Bok, who’s depopulation was attributed to “vampires” which the Baron "fought."(3)

During the Great War (1905 – 1918) his tactics were so aggressive no one was safe on the battlefield. (4)

In the years of reconstruction after the Global storm, the Baron served with the Earth Conference United and was present at the examination of meteorite #J2. It is at this moment the Baron became something truly inexplicable and the safety of the human race was compromised.

I now present a first hand account of the event by Dr. Jack Tezuka:

”The meteor was the size of Color-Wheel television and it glowed with a strange luminescence I had never seen before. It was still generating the weak radio signal that initially brought it to our attention. Captain Soinso maintained that we were looking at the charred exterior of a machine from outer space
At the sight in addition to Capt. Soinso and myself, there was Man 5 from The Defpotec Institute, the photographer Mac Dibley, a league-affiliated astronomer called Dr. Cramden, several of Soinso's Ready Squad attempting to keep curious locals at a safe distance, and the Baron. The six of us stood on the edge of the crater. I looked over at the Baron and noticed the air between him and the meteorite was shimmering. I pointed this out to Man 5. When I looked back, the Baron had started down into the crater.
”People were screaming at him not to go near the meteorite, others ran for cover. When the Baron reached the meteorite everything got very quiet. The air was shimmering all around inside the crater. I could hear some one in the crowd praying. Then there was an explosion. The Baron was covered in flames and a ropy mass of stuff from inside the meteorite.
”He was on fire when he crawled up out of the crater. His wooden limbs had fallen away and that stuff was all over him like burning snakes. When somebody put out the flames with a fire extinguisher a noxious thick black smoke belched out from between the coils.
”Man 5 had one hand presses to his massive turban and the other starched out at the Baron. The jewel in the turban had gotten to bright to look at! He was yelling about how the Baron had vanished from the Hypno Band! But something was still moving in the smoke. (5) I could see the limbs and trunk solidifying. And it was loud! As it stood up the racket it made was terrible!
”The only part of the Baron I could recognize was the top part of his face. His eyes looked calm. But he couldn't talk with what was his mouth. What were now his hands made the Indian signs for "I am the Baron. I am alive." (6) (7) Then he collapsed.
Soinso suggested we pore the Baron into a bucket and get the hell out of there, but the Baron got to his feet and managed to follow us to the car.”

Because of this unholy congress with an unknown entity, an extra-terrestrial being with uncertain motives now shares the Baron's position, power, and influence.

Military engineers built a faceplate and voice modulator for the Baron to make him appear more friendly and enable him to communicate verbally. However, his utterances were found to be generally disconcerting, displaiyng a preternatural insight. Furthermore he displayed a perverse interest in marine biology.

The Baron was sent to MIT for tests abord the Atlantic steamer Earl of Chadwick. Somewhere east of Cape Cod the Baron went overboard and was presumed lost. However, two months later he appeared in London demanding that Nurenburg be bombed immediately. After that, the Baron came and went of his own accord, his movements unaccounted for, his appearances unexpected.

In 1937 in responce to distress signals the HMS Kandlestick found the Japanease waling vessel Takeshi-Maru adrift and on fire. On deck stood the baron covered in blood. What was left of the crew were hysterical. They said a magnificent blue whale had been hauled in. Upon cutting away the bladder the Baron was found curled up in side the womb.

I now present a first hand account of the event by the ships cook in his own words:

“He woke up and started killing everyone!”

When questioned about what had happened the Baron was apologetic but unrepentant. When asked what he was doing inside a whale, inside its womb, he replied, “ They sing songs and I tell them stories.”

Though obviously unsatisfactory his answer was considered acceptable as the worlds focus had now turned to the out brake of WWII.

But I pose this question. What is it that he tells them? What dose he mean by “stories”? For his habitual bestial behavior has not stopped.
It is well known to Biblical scholars that the whale or “leviathan” is an ancient enemy of man. (8) To conspire with the beast in the one primal element threw which not even thought can pass is the base and subversive act of a criminal mind! Or to put it another way; The anti human behavior of a mind driven by an alien will.

Yes. A will from outside our sphere. A force that has penetrated the Fukogawa Belt. The barrier no manned rocket can return threw without becoming a coffin full of monsters. (9) And it is a monster that laughs at us all behind the smiling facade of the baron. The leering face of the adversary!

Footnotes
1- The Paravetty Tree is a rare sapient vegetable.

2 –The 16th-century adventurer Count von Stroheim was famed for his
iron appendages. A traveling monk during the second Crusade had a gold
nose. And Proclus tells us of a reclusive master of philosophy whose
lower body was replaced by a flowering shrub after the man was cleaved
in half during a battle in his youth.

3 – Vampires are not real.

4 - The Baron's record includes several reprimands for recklessness, his
refusal to take prisoners, and unauthorized hurling of enemy soldiers
into enemy lines. The Baron was given a wide berth in battle due to his
tendency to kill anyone foolish enough to get within his reach. His
long military career indicates a deep-seated love of carnage in his
personality.

5 - His disappearance from the Hypno Band is a clear indicator that this
is the moment when the man known as the Baron died, and was replaced by
something else from Outside known as the Baron.

6 - It is well known to scholars of earth that such a protestation of
identity indicates that one is NOT who he claims to be. Why would the
real Baron feel compelled to insist that he is the Baron?

7- Baron; sign old, crazy, and brother.

8- Book of Job 3:8 "Lo let the night be solitary, let no joyful cry be heard in it. Let them curse it who curse the day who are ready to awake the Leviathan".

9--The Fukogawa Belt (Also known as the Horror Zone)

An invisible wound left by the Global Storm. (The meteorological aberration which marked the end of WWI.) The Fukogawa Belt is located in the upper atmosphere, it surrounds the earth with what the human mind perceives of as horror. It is considered to have a direct correlation with the super normal reality of this modern age.
The phenomenon of The Fukogawa Belt may be the residual presence of The Malignant Intelligence From Beyond The Spheres that drove the Global Storm close to an extinction level event.

Robots and Hitlers

Robots

Alchemical automation was widely employed in the manufacture of robots during the earlier part of the 20th century.
The belief in Robot Soul Theory took hold in these early years.
Generally, robots were of prodigious size. Normally benign, they could be made to fight, and usually robots fight other robots. They were utilized in this capacity during WWI.

After the cataclysm, any device manufactured via the alchemical process was regarded with fear and suspicion. This emotional climate prompted World Congress Headquarters to established numerous prohibitions and restrictions on alchemically automated devices. Robots were at the top of the list.

The Maniac Hitler Rex was infatuated with robots and made liberal use of the Gepanzerte Gotter, his robot divisions, during the Nazi conquest. * *

Their association with Nazis has irrevocably maligned the robot image. As of now, there are still many robots but few of them are welcome anywhere.

Unless you count the Theotechnic Order. They venerate mechanization as part of evolution and robots are a special cause for them. Their belief system has its roots in Robot sole theory popular in the early 1900's, and it was part of the esoteric doctrine of the Nazi elite. These are the kind of associations that validate the suspicions people have of Theotechnic Order.

* To even the odds, the allied forces sanctioned the use of Heroes when engaging the Gepanzerte Gotter.

* Tojo was also enamored by robots but their use was limited by the Japanese. One could not have an honorable death if machines did all the fighting.

The Maniac Hitler Rex

Hitler Rex should not be mistaken for any of the Subsequent Hitlers.
After the mind bending yet ultimately unsuccessful campaign of Hitler Rex, evildoers made more Hitlers. There was Fat Hitler, Lady Hitler, Backdoor Hitler, Tall Hitler and Hitler 4.

Fat Hitler was a 5' 11" ponderous, neckless, cherubic man who burst shortly after his first ultimatum to the World Congress Headquarters.

Lady Hitler was a woman who was destroyed by her creator because she was not at all evil.

Backdoor Hitler was a very, very charming man. He came close to becoming the British Prim Minister but he was kidnapped and beaten to death by Neo Nazis who also could not tell he was Hitler.

Tall Hitler was a 7' 5" Hitler who was shot during his first heist. His size made hiding very hard for Tall Hitler.

Hitler 4 is anatomically the same as Tall Hitler but he is better at hiding and may be operating out of Florida. Hitler 4 in on the Danger List

Beyond the living range of earth

The moon

It is not believed that the moon is evil.
The moon is the only source of “moon light”.
There is a haunted Nazi base on the moon

Special Branch

Special Branch is a division of the military. It’s charter initially pertained to things from outside, or things that have returned from outside earth’s inhabitable radius. Over time Special Branch’s jurisdiction has grown to encompass the observation and investigation of things whose nature and intent cannot be quantified by standard military intelligence.
The Special Branch insignia is an abstraction of the celestial paths taken by Prebram, Innisfree, and Lost City, three earth-crossing asteroids that as “luck” would have it do not obliterate our planet.

THEOTECHNIC?

Grand High Simian

A spiritual leader known as The Grand High Simian who bends all studies to the Theotechnic Order's ascension agenda.
His true identity is unknown. Unless, of course, it IS “Grand High Simian.”

Secret Heart of Auto League.

The Secret Heart resides within the Crystal Basilica of the Theotechnic order, from which their weekly radio ministry is transmitted. The Secret Heart's hum is audible during these broadcasts. The hum may be a communication to robots tuned in to the broadcast frequency. Since the Theotechnic Order is a religious entity, whose precept is “the ascension of consciousness of beast through machine to a higher power,” they broadcast the hum without a permit.
This practice is illegal. The Theotechnic Order does not care.

Theotechnic creed #142

As man ascends from beast his way,
His machine, the body, like the mind,
Is given to him as tool to build
The superior vessel. To ascend
The consciousness on and on, til it’s there,
To its Self perfected.

DEFPOTEC Part III. Mr. Hammercastle

Mr. Hammercastle

A member of the S.V.D.- (squadra volante Defpotec), the reputed inheritors of the Flying Suit technology made famous by the eminent adventurer/scientist Commander Colby because, 1: the apparatus worn by the S.V.D work, and 2: Commander Colby's lab assistant Christala Agastino spent the latter part of her life residing within the DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE.

It is believed that Mr. Hammercastle joined the S.V.D. as a young man. However, being a "masked man" with Wild Talents, his body's reaction to the passage of time may be unusual.
Who he was before he came to the DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE is entirely speculative.

But a case can be made for an account made by one L. Bell, assistant to The Mystifying Alexander , in amongst her papers disclosed posthumously at her own behest. Bell was a known Fabulist*, so her account should be taken with some reservation. Many of the salient facts can be confirmed by history. The newspaper article does exist, and all of the persons mentioned were real. Here is the relevant excerpt:

" It was during our last tour through the Urals that Joan joined the company as a dancer. She and the other girls would go on while Alexander and the technicians got things set for the next act. Alexander married Joan at the end of our Asiatic tour. It had taken Alexander months to notice her. For such a smart man he could be very stupid. What Joan's life was like before she came to work with us is unclear. She never spoke of it, but she insisted Alexander not take her if the show ever went through the Urals again.

"When we got the news that she was to have a baby, everyone was so happy for her.

"I had been sent to San Francisco that November to examine an apparatus for Alexander when I received word that Joan had become ill. I called Alexander who said she was getting better and not to worry.

"Once I returned, I could see Joan wasn't getting better. She was delirious and everything but her stomach was wasting away.
I confronted Alexander that evening while he was checking some papers, and he finally told me he had conjured a remedy on his own to help Joan.
I could not believe what he was telling me! He was not a doctor! The alchemical devices he had, and any actual magic he knew, were for the show. He had no right to invoke things like that! He said the risk was not too great and everything would be fine. I left him there in his study. I think he really believed what he said.

"That night I slept badly. In the morning I went in to check on Joan. The light in the room was feeble but I could see that she was dead. Her limbs were a nightmare of angles. The bed-clothes, the floor , everything I could see was soaked with blood. The blankets at the foot of the bed were moving.. A thing crawled out from under them, a repugnant orangutan thing. Its hair was matted and slippery with gore. Its loathsome movements and the smell of that horrible room were too much for me. I wanted to smash the awful thing, but what it did next made me freeze: It smiled me. With it's canine mouth it smiled at me it's eyes were human. And I had seen those eyes before!
"I was screaming when I realized Alexander had come into the room and was pushing me to the door. As he sat me down in the hall, he told the chambermaid to send for someone, I thought for a doctor. Men who said they were the police arrived, cleaned the room ,and discretely removed Joan's body. There were no reporters and I saw no doctors. Joan was gone and Alexander said, "The baby is healthy. He has his mother's eyes."

"I went back to my flat and waited. In a couple of days I got word that Alexander was retiring and all his equipment was to be dropped into the Marianis Trench.

"I heard nothing of Alexander for 15 years, until I saw him in the audience at the Mignola and Gold's circus and he looked so old.

"The act he was watching was a Wildman-acrobat-strong-man called Nemo Lombard. Lombard was made up like an ape, and he sang as he capered about on a web of tightropes nearly at the top of the tent. Then he ran down a tent pole to the ground, where he wrestled three alligators at once, followed by balancing a girl on a horse on his head.

"With a start, I suddenly realized that Nemo Lombard was Joan's baby. That ape costume was not a costume at all!.

"I knew the circus’s veterinarian and was admitted around back where I found Alexander with Nemo Lombard. Alexander introduced me to him and I said I was an old friend of his mother.

"During my career I have worked with a menagerie of grotesque people. So when I say that I felt this boy was absolutely the most hateful monster I'd seen outside a laboratory cage you must believe me! When he spoke, he said he remembered me. I excused myself and had just enough composure to not run away.

"A few weeks later, this headline was in the Telegraph Gazette Interlocutor.
The Beast Nemo Executed.

"It seems Lombard had attacked a young woman who lived on a farm near the fairgrounds outside Baton Rouge where the circus had pitched its tents. She had three brothers who fought Lombard off. He killed all three of them. A posse managed to capture him. Most of the posse were hospitalized, and two of their horses had to be put to sleep. The trial was swift. He was found guilty and electrocuted the next day.

"I can not explain why, but I had to know what happened to the girl. So I went to Baton Rouge and found the farm the newspaper had mentioned. The family were little better than the animals they kept. They had banished the girl for being pregnant with Nemo Lombard's child. "If she stayed she would have brought shame on us all!".

"I caught up with the circus and spoke with my friend there. He told me: “ Alexanders the one who caught ‘ëm. He used a kind of spell . Scorched the ground for nigh about fifty feet all round and ruined any animals there abouts for performin’. A few of the clowns were there. Made ‘ëm quit the circus. Can't be a clown if nothin's funny no more."

"I found Alexander where I had left him fifteen years earlier at the home he had shared with Joan. He had the house opened and brought the girl that Nemo had attacked to stay with him. She said her name was Ruth.

"Alexander looked ancient. He felt responsible for all the horror, and he would take charge of Ruth and her child. I expressed my concern for his health and the girl's. He said the child would need singular attention, and he would not make the mistakes he made with it's father a second time. I told him that I would stay, and he could not deter me. This tired old man before me had no fight left, and I moved my things in that week.

"The next weeks were happy ones. Ruth showed none of the signs Joan had exhibited. Alexander spent most of his time quietly meditating in the garden. I had retained the services of a discreet midwife who would deliver the baby. And on May eve Ruth went into labor. Nemo Lombard's son was born at midnight. His body was normal but when his mouth was cleared, he howled once, then fell silent. Aside from that the boy behaved normally, though during the full moon he was very restless.

"When the boy was three I was called away to the island of Patmos where my brother lived. He had found a lost city and was getting married to its queen, and since the singular attention that had concerned Alexander had never been really necessary, I was sure my trip wouldn't be a detriment.

“That All-Hallows' eve, Ruth dyed. She had fallen down the stairs, but the medical examiner found that she had died of fright before the fall.
Alexander was by now too feeble to care for the child, and his mind was so weak that instead of calling me he called his old colleague Bill Schloss. Bill had denounced men like Alexander for their use of alchemical automatons in their acts before the war, but that was a long time ago and he could not turn his back on an old magician. I found this out after my return.

"I arrived at Alexander’s house where he was sitting quietly on a bench in the garden. He was dead. His eyes were open and when I touched the lids to close them, his body collapsed in on itself. He was only skin and bones. The skin was made up to look natural. Under the make up it was metallic. Later it was examined and proved to be gold and his bones were silver. How long he had been this way, I do not know. The forces he had invoked exact a heavy toll.

"I have been to the DEFPOTC INSTITUTE a number of times since then, sometimes on business, and sometimes to see Ruth's son. I do not believe he has seen me. They have told me his Wild Talent corresponds to the phases of the moon.

" He has given himself the name Mr. Hammercastle. I think it somehow references the cinema. Rather than becoming a Magician or taking his skills out into the world, he joined the S.V.D. I understand the S.V.D are good people but they are eccentric. When they're not away form the institute running errands or on assignment they stay to themselves. You might meet one at a lecture or one of the institute's gymnasiums but more often than not they’re in one of the tower eyries.

"In making this testimonial I put my mind at ease and go to the grave with a heart unburdened. I pray Joan's grandson will be the end of the horrors Alexander set in motion with his innocent remedy. And I trust my executors will exercise caution in their treatment of these papers.

DEFPOTEC Part II

The DEFPOTEC ORACLE logo

Printed on mail-order magic tricks like "The DEFPOTEC Tarot Cards" and "The DEFPOTEC Finger Guillotine” the ORACLE logo is most popularly remembered as the grinning head on "The DEFPOTEC YES-YES ORACULAR PLANK."

Emblazoned on the reverse side of the plank were the words:

"The DEFPOTEC YES-YES ORACULAR PLANK is 100% trick! 99% Risk free! Safe as houses!"

Intended as a curiosity for "fun", The DEFPOTEC YES-YES ORACULAR PLANK was not a scientific instrument. However, the Plank's design was later adapted by The DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE'S Psychical Branch laboratories to narrow the gap between scientifically acknowledged things and things Dr. Charles Fort referred to as “supplemental”

The ORACLE logo is now applied to the DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE's more sensitive documents and The Dangerous Equipment

The Psychical Branch insignia

The insignia is a diagram illustrating the relationships of the Seven Different Levels of Consciousness put forth by Harold Sherman in his book "How to Make E.S.P. Work for You."

This is a list of the Seven Different Levels of Consciousness from the outer level to the center level:

Your Conscious level
Your Subconscious level
Your Memory level
Your Creative Power level
Your Healing Power level
Your Intuitive level
Your Cosmic Consciousness level

DEFPOTEC

The DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE was established in the early part of the 20th century as a mail-order magicians’ school, where correspondents could send in a few dollars and receive how-to instructional booklets on magic tricks. Once a year the students were invited to an enormous Hotel where they would attend lectures, perform tricks, unveil new illusions, etc. all according to their level of skill. Among the notable guests the students could meet was the professor himself: Bill Schloss, THE INSCRUTABLE DEFPOTEC.

Schloss started his career as a close-up magician and eventually had an act of his own with the full complement of assistants and technicians. Though his show was good, there was nothing to distinguish it. At this point Schoss and company disappeared. A year later a new show was making headlines with an act that had patrons running, screaming with terror, out of packed theaters!
Schloss had retuned as THE INSCRUTABLE DEFPOTEC! The papers said that while in the jungles of Central America, he was visited by the specter of the high priest DEFPOTEC, and by giving his body over to the spirit's will, he could conjure things no man had ever dreamed! On stage, Schloss would set the crowd agog by conjuring wondrous nightmare images awash with gallons of blood. Off stage, Schloss made it clear that his show was an illusion. Its semblance of reality was due his superlative skill as a prestidigitator and showman.

Schloss felt that the distinction was necessary. At the time when stage magic was at its peak, there was a division between magicians. On one side there were those who employed the traditional tools of misdirection, and on the other were a newer breed that employed alchemical automation, creating acts that were no illusion. What you saw was real.

Schloss was a proponent of discipline and presence of mind. He advocated skill for the performance of illusions, a practice that in turn made for a stronger mind and body. He was an ardent opponent of alchemical automation, for he believed the price that would in time be paid was too high.

Schloss stated once that, “A show that gives the impression of danger is fine. But what an audience gets when these fools go fishing in the “deep end” are things no one is supposed to see. Ever!”

The situation on the stage reflect a debate which was ongoing in the world at large.
Society for some time had become dependent on the aid of alchemical automation, for instance, the use of automaton calculating machines. These devices instantly performed the equations that for an aligned human mind to perform would have taken lifetimes of singular attention.

Alchemical automation ranged from domestic products such as windows, and floors which cleaned themselves, to meals that cooked themselves. As for industry, lighter-than-air transparent super metals and fuel-less furnaces were enormously beneficial.

In the arena of stage magic, this practice was employed to create unbelievable shows, and since it kept theaters full, any outcry from traditional magicians was ignored.

At the end of WWI the world knew the cost of their unlimited lifestyle. A vampiric storm let loose by a saturation of alchemical super weapons barely left the human race alive on this planet and few of the survivors were still in the mood to see a magic show. In spite of all this, the DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE did not close. Unable to perform his act publicly, Schloss lived quietly, sending out the magic trick pamphlets and doing private engagements.

Over time it became evident to the observant that this planet was becoming alien. For a human to deal with the new situations in this changing world, a cultivation of oneself became increasingly perceived as an appropriate course of action.

Schloss was approached by a concerned party who invited him to set up the DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE as a physical entity where techniques useful in this modern age could be made available for those of solid character.
Now it is agreed by many that the DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE’S “MAGICIAN STYLE” is very strong, and is welcome in many places. Those who would do harm fear the “MAGICIAN STYLE”.

People. Part I

Hello my friends. In this first entry, I would like to ask you to become acquainted with the people of this Amplified world. To know something of their stories my help you prepare your selves for what is to come.

...........................................................................................................................................................................

Diane

After the “mysterious” “death” of her parents Diane was adopted by Professor Ramirez . She is afflicted with malignant dreams, usually while asleep. She has trouble consciously integrating these experiences into objective reality. On the Professor’s advice, Diane has been studying abroad, in France.
As seen the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED Diane has broken off her engagement with Dr. Samson Blackwood, the Professor’s protégé, to marry George Panther.
Dr. Samson Blackwood may now be dead.
Diane has a curious birthmark on her left arm. The reactions people have to this birthmark are a constant source of anxiety.

Lieutenant George Panther

George is an army pilot who is “popular”. He is also an agent of Special Branch (a division of the military).
George has been assigned by Special Branch to investigate Professor Ramirez. It has been said that the nature of Ramirez’s scientific endeavors are irregular. During this investigation George met and wooed Diane to insure closeness to Ramirez. George’s attraction to Diane may be genuine. Their relationship is highlighted in the motion picture "MARK OF THE DAMNED".
During a flight over the Yukon, George’s plane crashed. He was found kilometers from the wreck eating moss and suffering from singular wounds. To expedite a “full recovery” George’s health may have been sacrificed.

The Unknowable Fantasmerack

The Unknowable Fantasmerack is an adept student of the DEFPOTEC magician style. The Unknowable Fantasmerack is currently in the employ of The DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE. The Unknowable Fantasmerack looks exactly like one Mister Lobo. Mister Lobo is a scholar whose obsession with "editing history" has made their uncanny resemblance inconvenient for the Unknowable Fantasmerack and the DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE. The issue is not simply that they resemble one another. It's that they are exactly identical. Their blood is even the same. And they always get the same glasses! Inexplicably, neither party will take necessary steps to differentiate himself visually from the other. The degree of animosity between them is such that they have never been photographed together, which inevitably leads to groundless theorizing by “speculative jackasses.”

The Goblin Rider

An accomplished Masked Hero, The Goblin Rider is ostensibly nocturnal. His outré style is amplified by the spectral horse he rides. The horse’s locomotion causes colossal shock waves not unlike thunder. While in motion the horse and its rider are invisible and can smash through almost anything.
His association with King Silver is well known.

Dr. Blackwood

One of the foremost experts on primitive cultures and comparative religion. Dr Samson Blackwood has dedicated his life to revealing the hidden knowledge of the human race on the planet earth. Blackwood would gladly dare beyond survival to satisfy the furious hunger of science.

Inspector Nigel Lesley

A brave police officer, with one human brain, who knows the futility of guns in the occult world of modern crime.
Lesley wished to be depicted here as he is today in this drawing delicately rendered by his father Mr. Lesley.
Inspector Lesley was hospitalized after his experience with a gang of kidnappers rumored to be alien body snatchers. (The dramatization of the event can be seen in the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED.)
During his convalescence Lesley disappeared. Witnesses attest that he had never left his room. The only clue was a geometric pattern drawn on the wall next to his bed. Months later Lesley’s mother, Mrs. Lesley, found a thing roughly human shaped sprawled out on the floor of her parlor. It was alive and spoke to her. She realized this was her son.
Since his reappearance it has been deduced that Lesley had stepped out of our world and traversed the Hypnoband to unknown places. And to survive the transitions between here and there his anatomy had to change so he may survive.
Lesley now lives with his parents in there home.
His singular understanding of crime is still of great value to the police department who call upon Lesley to aid in there more peculiar investigations.

Casey Tomlin

Casey Tomlin was a mathematics instructor who found he could not only withstand, but actually manipulate the inhuman forces within The Orbaphone. And in doing so he is able to create music which many people enjoy.
Doctors say that Tomlin has survived playing The Orbaphone because he can also breathe under water.

Amanda

In the weird and sometimes troubling places a scientist goes while doing archeology, Amanda's nerve and presence of mind have helped Amanda and some of her colleagues survive many scientific expeditions.

Commander Chet Zadok

Commander Zadok was a Space-rocket pilot. He was shot beyond the living range of earth threw the Fukogawa Belt into an orbit around the moon. Commander Zadok screamed during the entire return trip. Once retrieved form the Space-rocket he refused to close his eyes. By this time Commander Zadok’s screams had become a weird keening without any detectable syllabification.
There was no evidence of gigantism or mutation. The flight was a tremendous achievement.
Commander Zadok was then transferred to Special Branch. His assignment was to observe Professor Ramirez by posing as a patient in his care. After receiving treatment Commander Zadok continued the investigation as Ramirez’s butler. Details of the investigation can be seen in the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED .

The colonial governor

Sent to the colonies to make a name for himself, Young Duke Pimberton Shadwell, the Third Earl of Walford in Erbino, took up residence in the fortress of Pila De La Cueva, built on the site of a heathen temple, overlooking a province whose agricultural wealth promised to make the Duke very wealthy and solidify his popularity in her majesty’s court.
A year later, some disquieting news of the Duke’s behavior reached back across the Atlantic, punctuated by the accompanying portrait he sent his mother, the Duchess of Crimona, for her birthday. An envoy sent by the Duchess's representatives found the colony run amuck and the Duke a madman preoccupied with the idea that he was the victim of black magic. There is an account of a gala that ended in conflagration from which there were few survivors. The fate of the Duke remains a mystery. “Coincidentally” within the aforementioned event is the first official account of the masked hero KING SILVER 1.

Dr. Cyclops Mather

A minor celebrity in his field, Cyclops Mather suffers from the potentially hazardous belief that all roads taken in the pursuit of archeology may lead to Eldorado. He is also deathly afraid of spiders.
An interesting thing about the Mather family is that they all look alike. Though this isn’t uncommon in the modern age, it is unsettling.

Jungle Girl

Pundits have made much of the fact that KING SILVER is surrounded by staggeringly good-looking women. Jungle Girl is integral, and rarely unscathed.

King Silver

Since the dawn of man there have been unique men who by design or by “accident” are their brothers’ keepers and protectors. King Silver has inherited this distinction from a long line of King Silvers. Like his ancestors before him, King silver bears the mark of power on his left arm and wears the silver mask on his head. He has no secret life, for the mask is his only face and the hero’s code is his only purpose: Seek out the truth and protect the innocent!

Inspector Manningtree

Inspector Maningtree fell in the line of duty wile investigating a gang of kidnappers (the details of the investigation can be seen in the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED) Maningtree and his companions were caught in a lava flow. Surviving this they were then trapped under tons of volcanic ash. Using makeshift tools, they dug their way out. His companions said Maningtree was disoriented by the new terrain and fell into a ravine where a river swept him down stream. Three weeks later his head was found on the steps of a park ranger station. He is remembered by his wife Joan and their two children Roylan and Danly.

Rev. Dr. Amicus Mather

Amicus is an ordained priest. In his youth he was a missionary to a remote Polynesian island, where he picked up some “heretical” ideas and a curious tattoo. He is no longer allowed to preach, but his specialized knowledge and unique stamina are extremely valuable to the Church and mankind. Reverend Mather is often part of sphinx-like teams that combat evil in a more direct and active way. He is also the custodian of a DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE Hazardous Printed Media Archive.
An interesting thing about the Mather family is that they all look alike. Though this isn’t uncommon in the modern age, it is unsettling.

Dr. Guy Quatermass

Dr. Quatermass is a Tar-zan. A Tar-zan is a Homo sapien raised by animals other than Homo sapiens. Not to be mistaken for mountain men or wild men who simply live with animals other than Homo sapiens. In Dr. Quatermass’s case he was raised by apes.
Mr. and Mrs. Axle Quatermass found Guy (then age 11) while they were visiting the jungle Island of Sbola. The Quatermasses swiftly brought Guy home and adopted him. Guy proved to possess a staggering intellect and great physical power. Guy excelled scholastically and was soon at university, where he insisted that he pay his own way with the winnings he earned as a pugilist.
Some time later an accident in the lab forced Dr.Guy Quatermass to wear an insulated suit of his own design to protect other people from the dangerous “vibes” his body now radiated. In time, he scaled down the suit to resemble a pair of thick horn-rimmed eye-glasses. Another result of the accident is that Dr. Guy Quatermass’s strength has been increased to levels as yet immeasurable.
Dr.Quatermass has been the recipient of the Frankenstein Harmonious Earth Prize and the Tesla True Science Award.
Dr. Quatermass can be seen in the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED.

Professor Vervain RanDom

Professor Random is the number one most dangerous man alive. He is responsible for the Earthquake Machine and the subsequent Zombie Epidemic. (Faithfully dramatized in the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED)
Believing himself snubbed by the scientific community for his ardent belief that the dead can be a viable work force, Professor RanDom activated a device that caused all the dead within range of its vibratory force to become animated. A residual effect of this phenomenon was catastrophic earthquakes.
It is widely believed that, having irrevocably bent the laws of science, Professor RanDom is now capable of anything. World authorities are searching for Professor Random. He could be anywhere. He may be on the moon.

Stephanie

Stephanie is a student of Dr. Blackwood and Prof. Ramirez. She is working on her P.H.D. in archaeology and anthropology.

The Baron

The Baron is an enigma. He has been at a majority of decisive military battles since at least the year 1632. His strength, ferocity, and inability to die are disquieting. Over time the Baron lost his original limbs in a succession of martial activities. The technology that makes up most of the Baron’s present form seems to be beyond the comprehension of experts. The Baron volunteers his skills to the World Congress Headquarters and usually respects The Chain of Command. When asked about the Baron the government has only one response:
"This is the Baron. He is friendly."
Doctors, on the other hand, have this to say: “He may be chordate. There is speculation that he may be of the order canivora though his “skull” shape does not manifest dentition of prominent canines and carnassials “

Patrolman Pequeno

Pequeno often stumbles upon inconceivable situations that affect many human lives, a trait usually associated with Heroes. The difference here is that people don’t usually pay attention to Pequeino.
An interesting thing about the Pequeno family is that they all look alike. Though this isn’t uncommon in the modern age, it is unsettling.

Skipper Bruce Hathorne

"Anything that can be said about Skipper Bruce is probably an absolute lie" -Cantonese proverb

That statement is true. As an entertainer Bruce Hathorne has reinvented his past numerous times.
It is known for certain that he did have a submarine and he did travel the globe in search of bad movies/adventure and his eyes were removed and his anatomy was tampered with in an attempt to create something akin to The Baron. The titanic eyeballs within the Tandem Vitreous Discerning Telescope are the eyes designed for him, but they were never shrunk with a shrink-ray like they told him they would be, because shrink-rays do not exist. He can see what the eyes see at night, so he can’t sleep, and the only drugs he can get to keep the organs they used in him from killing him aren't the right ones, so he’s going nuts. His voice does not really sound the way it sounds, and he's sick of everybody. He is very scary to most people. And he's making me write this. He has a gun.

Professor Ramirez

Professor Ramirez teaches at the University and is one of the co-organizers of the Blackwood Expedition. He is a man with a mysterious past. There are rumors about his style of science. Professor Ramirez adopted Diane after the “mysterious” “death” of her parents. He is currently under observation by both the Special Branch and the DEFPOTEC INSTITUTE. These investigations are in the motion picture MARK OF THE DAMNED.
